Make Soft and Chewy Holiday Cookies in Under 30 Minutes!
Hi! If you’ve been following me for long you’ll already know this, but for those who are new, welcome to Far From The Farm. I’m Mona, the Brit behind the recipes, learning life and food in the States while sharing our debt-free journey and what’s on the menu in our home today!
These cookies were born out of one of those real life moments where you want something sweet for the holidays but you do not want to spend a fortune or make a huge batch.
I had Christmas tree decorating to do, a house full of family and friends, and a craving for a cosy treat that tasted festive without costing a lot.
One of our family’s favorite treats is the Crumbl Holiday M&M cookie, but we simply do not have the cash to splash on takeaway treats in this season, so this is our cosy homemade version that fits the budget.
I took a basic chocolate chip cookie recipe and used the mini holiday M&M’s baking chips, and oh my goodness they turned out perfect!
Soft. Chewy. Sweet. Slightly crisp at the edges. Packed with red and green candy pieces that make the cookies look instantly Christmassy.
And they take just minutes in the stand mixer. So easy that even the kids can help.
Perfect for tree decorating, hot chocolate nights, Christmas movies, or even to leave out for Santa on Christmas Eve.

I will be honest. I miss British and European baked goods sometimes. But American style soft cookies have a cosy magic to them.
They go perfectly with a cup of coffee, a scoop of ice cream, or just by themselves warm from the oven. And the house smells incredible while they bake.
These cookies are also budget friendly which matters in December. The holidays are expensive, and making even a few homemade treats helps me stay within my grocery budget without feeling like I am missing out on the festive fun.

- Parchment paper
- Baking trays
- Cooling rack
Available on Amazon.com [ad]
Ingredients
Makes 12 Medium Cookies
- ½ cup salted butter, softened (1 stick)
- ½ cup granulated white sugar
- ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup Holiday mini M&M’s baking chips (red and green), plus a little extra for topping
Available on Amazon.com [ad]
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1. Preheat the oven
Set your oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2. Cream butter and sugars

Place the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar into the bowl of your stand mixer.
Mix on low for 1 minute, then on medium for 1 minute until pale and creamy.
Step 3. Add egg and vanilla
Add the egg and vanilla and mix on low for about 30 seconds until fully combined.

Step 4. Add dry ingredients
Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt directly to the bowl. Mix on low for about 2 minutes so the flour hydrates properly.
Then mix on medium for 1 minute. The dough will be soft and thick.
Step 5. Fold in the M&M’s
Remove the bowl from the mixer.
Add the Holiday M&M’s baking chips in four small additions. Fold gently with your hands or a spatula. Doing it in small batches stops the candies from crushing.

Step 6. Scoop the dough
Spray your cookie scoop with cooking spray so the dough releases cleanly.
Scoop 12 dough balls and place them evenly on the trays. Make sure they have at least 2 inches of space because these cookies spread.
Press 2 or 3 extra M&M’s on top of each dough ball for that chic bakery look.

Step 7. Bake
Bake at 350°F for 11 to 14 minutes (at 14 they will remain quite firm so if you prefer a softer cookie go for nearer 11 minutes).
We prefer the higher end.
The centers should look slightly pale and soft. They will firm up as they cool.
Step 8. Cool
Let the cookies cool on the tray for 5 minutes.
They will be very soft at first and may break if moved too quickly.
After 5 minutes, transfer carefully to a cooling rack.
