The Most Luxurious Homemade Shrimp Pasta in 11 Easy Steps!
So Why Shrimp Alfredo Fettuccine?
Shrimp Alfredo has been on permanent rotation in our house because it’s something my husband craves often.
My lovely sister-in-law Rachel passed down her version and we’ve slowly adapted it into our own.
In our home, that usually means turning up the heat a little, because my husband loves a spicier kick to the shrimp!
If you’ve followed me for any length of time you’ll know that we’re a military family. You’ll often see pictures of my not-really-instagram-ready home!
That’s why my recipes come with real step photos, not overly staged setups that never look the same when you try them at home.
If you shop the commissary like we do, you’ll also recognize plenty of Freedom’s Choice ingredients because their prices are pretty hard to beat!
This is the kind of comfort food recipe that feels rich enough for date night but easy enough for a busy weekday…
First Things First – Equipment
Before you get started, here’s what you’ll want ready on your counter.
Having the right tools makes all the difference in getting this sauce smooth and the shrimp baked perfectly!
Equipment You’ll Need:
- Large non-stick frying pan (high sides make stirring easier)
- Baking sheet – large enough for shrimp
- Aluminum foil to line the pan
- Tablespoon measure – I adore these cherrie measuring spoons!
- A sharp knife to cube your cream cheese
- Non-stick spatula
- A whisk or sturdy wooden spoon

Ingredients

Here’s what goes into our shrimp Alfredo. Nothing fancy, just real food that comes together fast.
- 1 & 1/2 sticks butter (1 stick for sauce, 1/2 stick for buttering foil)
- 1 large bag shrimp, defrosted (we use medium Wild American Raw Peeled Shrimp, blue bag from the commissary)
- 2 tbsp cajun seasoning
- 2 tbsp chipotle hot sauce – gives a wonderful smokiness
- 2 tbsp minced garlic (jarred works great)
- 1 block (8oz) cream cheese, cubed
- 1 pint heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella (parmesan, cheddar, or a mix also works)
- Salt and pepper to taste (we love pepper, so we add about a tablespoon at the end)

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 – Season the Shrimp
Drain the defrosted shrimp and keep them in their bag.
Add cajun seasoning and chipotle hot sauce.
Seal, give it a good shake, and set aside for 30 minutes. This helps the flavor soak in.

Step 2 – Preheat the Oven
Turn your oven on to 350°F/180°C
Step 3 – Prepare the Baking Sheet
Line your baking sheet with foil. Spread 1/2 stick of softened butter across the foil to keep shrimp from sticking.

Step 4 – Bake the Shrimp
Spread the seasoned shrimp evenly on the buttered foil. Bake for 15 minutes until just cooked through.
Step 5 – Start the Alfredo Base
In your high-sided pan, melt 1 stick of butter with the minced garlic on medium heat. Stir constantly so it doesn’t burn.

Step 6 – Add the Cream Cheese
Drop in your cubed cream cheese and whisk until it starts to look like cottage cheese.

Go slow. This step usually takes 5 minutes but it’s worth it for a smooth sauce.

Step 7 – Pour in the Cream
Once the cream cheese is partially melted, slowly whisk in the heavy cream.

Stir until the mixture turns silky.

Step 8 – Add the Cheese
Toss in the shredded mozzarella or whatever cheese you’re using.

Stir until melted and combined.

Step 9 – Season to Taste
Add salt and pepper.

We go heavy on the pepper, but adjust for your family’s taste.

Step 10 – Combine and Serve
Toss the cooked shrimp into the Alfredo sauce or serve them on top of fettuccine. Both ways are delicious.

Step 11 – Storage
This dish doesn’t freeze well, but it keeps in the fridge for up to 48 hours in an airtight container.
When reheating, add a tablespoon of milk and gently warm on the stove to loosen the sauce.

Extra Tips
- This sauce loves fresh pasta. If you’ve never made your own, check out my Homemade Pasta Recipe with KitchenAid Attachments.
- If you prefer a lighter sauce, swap half the heavy cream for half the amount of whole milk.
- To cut heat, skip the chipotle hot sauce and double up on mozzarella for a creamier finish.
Serving Suggestions
We usually pair Shrimp Alfredo with homemade fettuccine and a simple green salad.
Garlic bread is another favorite side, especially on cooler nights. If you’re hosting, it’s an easy showstopper that feels like restaurant dining without the bill.
