Are Airports the Blogger’s Paradise?

As part of a transatlantic love story I am often fortunate enough to travel. And today I find myself back in one of my favorite spots in the entire world: the Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 Wagamama Restaurant.

As I sit here in this bustling hub of international travel, I can’t help but feel a surge of gratitude and excitement for my new career as a blogger. It’s incredible how life changes can open up fresh perspectives and a deeper appreciation for what we do.

Now I’m going to assume that if you are a brand new blogger like me or just starting a business you aren’t going to have the kind of money lying around just to go to the first class or business class lounge. If you do – feel free to skip this week’s blog post and carry yourself off to the fluffy clouds of the life of airport luxury – jealous? Moi? Never. But for the rest of us grab a drink and let’s get into it.

The View from Wagamamas Restaurant Heathrow Airport Terminal 5

The Perfect Blogging Spot

First things first, if you ever find yourself passing through Heathrow, you *must* make a beeline for Wagamama’s after security. Trust me on this one. Head straight in and try to grab one of the seats directly to the left when you walk in. These seats offer what I consider one of the most beautiful, busy, and brash views in the world. You get to witness Heathrow Airport in all its glory—people hurrying, families reuniting, solo travelers with their noses buried in books or phones, and an endless parade of flights taking off and landing.

But what really elevates this experience is the food and service at Wagamama. I mean, who can resist a steaming bowl of tantanmen brisket ramen? Hello! Yes, please—all day, every day! The flavors are rich, the broth is comforting, and the brisket? Melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The service here is top-notch too, always quick and friendly, making it an ideal spot for both a quick bite and a long, leisurely meal.

One thing to note though – Wagamama is the absolute ideal for me as an extrovert who often travels solo. That’s because they have communal bench style seating meaning you always meet someone new every time you go! Now I adore this however the very thought of having to make smalltalk with strangers at lunch can trigger hives for my introverted husband – be forewarned!

(P.S. Here are a couple of pictures from my current view. Wagamama food is just the best!)

Finding Serenity in the Chaos

Now, you might wonder how on earth one finds serenity in the midst of one of the busiest airports in the world. Well, nestled in amongst this hustle and bustle, Wagamama is like a serene Pan-Asian oasis. Despite the chaos outside, once you’re inside, there’s a certain calmness to the rhythmic sounds of the kitchen and the gentle murmur of conversations.

There’s something incredibly inspiring about being surrounded by so many stories. Everyone here has a place to go and someone to meet, and it’s this constant flow of human connection and movement that sparks my creativity. I love people-watching—seeing the anticipation of a journey about to start or the relief of one completed. It’s a reminder of how diverse and interconnected our world is.

Travel whist blogging - the perfect flexible career

5 Reasons Airports are a Haven for Bloggers and Writers

1. Free Wi-Fi: Most airports, including Heathrow, offer free Wi-Fi. This is a lifesaver for bloggers who need to stay connected, whether for researching, uploading posts, or just staying in touch with readers.

2. Ample Seating: Airports are designed to accommodate large numbers of people, which means plenty of seating options. Whether you prefer a cozy corner or a communal table, there’s a spot for you.

3. Power Outlets: Running out of battery is every blogger’s nightmare. Luckily, airports are equipped with numerous charging stations, so you can keep your devices powered up and ready to go.

4. Inspiration Everywhere: From the diversity of people to the variety of destinations, airports are a treasure trove of inspiration. There’s always something new to see, hear, and write about.

5. People Watching: This might be my favorite part. Observing people in transit offers endless story ideas. Every traveler has a unique story, and sometimes, just watching a moment of their journey can spark a great blog post.

6. Lots of Reading Potential: OK so if you don’t want to actually work on your blog or business, you can still take advantage of the quiet time and do some good old fashioned airport reading! My all time fave airport reads have to be the series that A.C. Williams wrote about the misadventures of Trisha Lee – if you haven’t checked them out yet you need to stop what you’re doing and go find her books she is just the most talented, funny yet cozy writer. I always re-read her books time and time again and I’ve met her personally – she is a peach in real life! Here’s some of my favorite from this author, links to purchase below from the Amazon website:

  • [ad] Finding Fireflies 1st in the Trisha Lee series
  • [ad] Saving Sparrows 2nd in the Trisha Lee series
  • [ad] Flipping Fates 3rd in the Trisha Lee series
  • [ad] A Cowboy for Christmas – How this isn’t a Christmas Movie yet I don’t know! EPIC cozy Christmas romance perfect for little stocking fillers for the season! It’s my personal fave from this author because I adore all things soppy and Christmassy!

A New Appreciation for My Flexible Career

Being here has given me a newfound appreciation for my career as a blogger. It’s easy to take for granted the flexibility and freedom that comes with this job. I can work from anywhere, be it a quiet coffee shop, my living room, or even an airport restaurant. Each location offers its own set of inspirations and challenges, and that’s what keeps things exciting.

The hustle and bustle of an airport might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for me, it’s a vibrant reminder of the endless possibilities that come with being a blogger. There’s a certain energy here that you can’t find anywhere else. It’s a place where dreams take flight—literally and figuratively.
