Set and Forget Pasta Recipe for Cooking Spaghetti Noodles In Your Instant Pot With No More Stovetop Mess!
Hi! If you’ve been following me for long you’ll already know this, but for those who are new, welcome to Far From The Farm. I’m Mona, the Brit behind the recipes, learning life and food in the States while sharing our debt-free journey and what’s on the menu in our home today!
One thing I learned very quickly after starting to experiment with pasta in the Instant Pot is this: Not all pasta cooks the same way.
I completely fell into the trap at first of assuming every noodle could be pressure cooked exactly the same. Same timing. Same method. Same everything. Absolutely not.
Some pasta turns mushy. Some ends up weirdly undercooked in places. Some clumps together into one giant mess if you are not careful.
And spaghetti noodles definitely need slightly different handling compared to shorter pasta shapes like penne.
So I thought it would actually be really helpful to start putting together a proper little pasta series here on Far From The Farm. A collection of simple methods showing exactly how to cook different pasta shapes in the Instant Pot properly, so you can completely take the guesswork out of dinner.
Because on busy nights the last thing any of us need is dinner failing at the exact moment everybody is already hungry and tired.
This spaghetti method has become such an easy fallback meal in our house because it keeps cleanup so much simpler.

No giant pot boiling over on the stove. No starchy pasta water splashing everywhere. No waiting around forever for water to boil first. And no giant saucepan to scrub afterwards either!
The Instant Pot just quietly gets on with it while you sort everything else out around the house.
The best part is that pot-sized spaghetti noodles make this ridiculously easy because they fit straight into the Instant Pot perfectly.
But if all you have is regular spaghetti noodles, that works absolutely fine too. Just snap them in half before adding them into the pot.
The finished spaghetti comes out tender, evenly cooked, and ready for whatever dinner situation you need that night. Marinara sauce, Alfredo, garlic butter, meatballs, baked spaghetti, quick pantry dinners, lazy exhausted evenings where everyone just needs feeding fast. It works for all of it.
Also just a quick note about salt before we start. We personally do not salt the cooking water because some members of our family are navigating health issues and it’s easier for us to season individual portions afterwards instead.
But if you normally salt your pasta water you absolutely still can.
As a military family deep into baby step 2 of our debt free journey, easy pantry meals like this have become such an important part of keeping life manageable, affordable, and realistic during stressful seasons.

Sneak Peak!
Sometimes you need to see the end product before you commit to making it, right?! So here’s a quick glimpse of how it turned out for me today along with the recipe at a glance!
Equipment
- Instant Pot 6 or 8 qt pressure cooker
- Measuring jug
- Silicone spatula
- Colander
Available on Amazon.com [ad]
Ingredients
Makes 4 to 6 servings
- 1 lb pot-sized spaghetti noodles (16 oz / 454g)
- 4 cups water (32 fl oz / 946ml)
Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1: Add the spaghetti noodles and water

Place the dry spaghetti noodles into the insert of your Instant Pot.
If you are using pot-sized spaghetti noodles, they should fit directly into the pot perfectly without needing to break them.
If using regular spaghetti noodles instead, simply snap them in half before adding them into the Instant Pot.
Pour the water over the noodles.
Try to spread the noodles slightly into a loose crisscross pattern instead of leaving them in one tight clump. and ensure they are all under water. This helps them cook more evenly under pressure.
Step 2: Seal the lid

Place the insert back into the Instant Pot and secure the lid.
Turn the valve to SEAL.
The Instant Pot needs to fully pressurize before the cooking timer begins counting down.
Step 3: Pressure cook
Cook on HIGH pressure for 4 minutes for fully cooked spaghetti
Top Tip: Different pasta brands can vary slightly, so after making this once or twice you’ll quickly learn the exact timing your family prefers!
Step 4: Quick release the pressure
As soon as the cooking cycle finishes, carefully perform a QUICK RELEASE.
Keep hands and face away from the steam vent.
Spaghetti noodles can continue softening quickly if left sitting under pressure too long, so releasing immediately helps keep the texture just right.

Step 5: Stir and drain
Once the pressure pin drops, carefully open the lid.
Immediately stir the spaghetti noodles using a silicone spatula or tongs to help separate them while still hot.
Drain using a colander.

Step 6: Serve
Serve immediately plain or toss with:
- shredded cheese
- marinara sauce
- butter
- olive oil
- parmesan
- pasta sauce
- garlic butter
- Alfredo sauce
