Ingredients

  • 1 lb mini farfalle bow tie pasta - 16 oz / 454g
  • 4 1/2 cups water - or enough to fully cover the pasta

Equipment

  • Instant Pot 6 or 8 qt pressure cooker
  • Measuring jug
  • Silicone spatula
  • colander

Method

  1. Pour the dry mini farfalle pasta into the insert of your Instant Pot.
  2. Pour over the water, ensuring the pasta is fully covered.
  3. Gently press the pasta down into the water so most of it is submerged.
  4. Secure the lid and turn the valve to SEAL.
  5. Cook on HIGH pressure for:
    * 4 minutes for fully cooked pasta
    * 3 minutes for firmer pasta salad style pasta
  6. As soon as cooking finishes, carefully perform a QUICK RELEASE.
  7. Once the pressure pin drops, carefully open the lid and immediately stir the pasta to help prevent sticking.
  8. Drain using a colander.
  9. Serve immediately with butter, parmesan, Alfredo sauce, marinara, pesto, or your favorite pasta sauce.

Notes

  • Mini farfalle is also known as mini bow tie pasta.
  • Use enough water to fully cover the pasta before cooking.
  • 4 minutes gives tender pasta for hot meals.
  • 3 minutes works well for pasta salad.
  • Drain immediately after cooking.
  • Stirring right away helps prevent sticking.
  • This method works best with a 6 qt or 8 qt Instant Pot.

Storage

  • Store leftover cooked pasta in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Toss plain pasta with a tiny drizzle of olive oil before storing to help reduce sticking.
  • Reheat in the microwave with a splash of water, broth, butter, or sauce.
  • For pasta salad, cool completely before adding dressing.
