These Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies are one of my husband’s all time favourite treats and he especially loves them around the holidays.
They were new to me when I moved here from the UK because peanut butter baking simply is not something we do much back home. But these changed everything for me.
There is something so lovely about watching these cookies bake. They puff gently, crack beautifully and come out soft and warm. Pressing a Hershey Kiss into the centre while they are still hot feels almost magical and the chocolate melts just enough to settle perfectly!

The most surprising part is how simple they are to make. Only a handful of ingredients and absolutely no flour at all!
They turn out perfectly every time and they are one of the easiest festive cookies you can add to your seasonal baking list.
They’re also super budget-friendly and every penny saved counts for us as a military family on baby step 2 of our debt free journey!

We now make these cookies every Christmas and also throughout the year for birthdays, care packages, neighbour gifts and cosy evenings at home.
And you can change the flavour completely depending on which Hershey Kiss you place in the centre. Peppermint, hot cocoa, caramel, candy cane, dark chocolate or the classic silver kiss. Endless fun!

Ingredients

Makes 16 cookies
- 1 cup peanut butter, the smooth and creamy kind
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup white sugar for rolling
- 16 Hershey Kisses in any flavour, unwrapped
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1. Mix the dough

Stir together the peanut butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth. You can use a wooden spoon, spatula or a hand mixer.
Step 2. Chill completely
Cover the bowl and place the dough in the fridge for at least 4 hours. This step helps the cookies hold shape and crack beautifully as they bake.
Step 3. Prepare the tray
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the 1/4 cup white sugar into a small bowl.
Unwrap all 16 Hershey Kisses so they are ready to go.
Step 4. Roll and coat

Scoop the dough into 16 equal sized balls using a cookie scoop. Roll each ball in the white sugar and place onto the baking sheet. Do not flatten.
Step 5. Bake
Bake at 350°F for 11 to 13 minutes until the tops look set and small cracks form. They should still feel soft.

Step 6. Add the chocolate
Remove from the oven and immediately press a Hershey Kiss gently into the centre of each cookie.
Step 7. Cool and enjoy
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet before moving them to a cooling rack.

Notes and Troubleshooting!
Before you get baking, here are a few helpful notes to make sure your cookies turn out perfect every time…
Notes
- Chilling the dough for several hours helps these cookies bake thick and soft instead of spreading.
- Rolling each dough ball in white sugar adds that classic sparkle and slight crunch that makes peanut butter blossoms so nostalgic.
- You can use any flavour of Hershey Kiss here which means you can tailor the cookies to the season or the occasion. Peppermint, caramel, hot cocoa and dark chocolate all work beautifully!
Troubleshooting
Cookies look too dry:
Reduce the bake time by one minute next time. These cookies should come out soft and only lightly cracked on top.
Kisses melting too much:
Place the unwrapped kisses in the freezer for 10 minutes while the cookies bake. They will hold their shape better when pressed into the hot cookies.
Cookies spreading:
The dough was likely not chilled long enough. Chill for at least 4 hours or even overnight for the best results.
Cracks not forming on top:
This usually means the dough was too warm. Chill longer before shaping.
Too sweet?
Use dark chocolate kisses to balance the sweetness of the cookie.

Can I use mini Reese’s Cups instead of kisses?
