Ingredients

  • 8-10 slices thick cut sourdough bread
  • 1 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp grated parmesan cheese
  • Pinch salt
Optional additional cheese when cooking
  • 1/4 shredded cheese per slice just before cooking - optional

Equipment

  • Bread knife
  • cutting board
  • Measuring spoons
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • Butter knife
  • Large 2-gallon freezer bag
  • Sharpie for labeling
  • baking sheets

Method

  1. Take 8 to 10 thick slices of sourdough bread. Fresh or frozen both work. Crusts can be left on or removed based on preference.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together softened butter, minced garlic, dried parsley, pinch of salt and grated parmesan cheese, until fully combined.
  3. Spread the garlic butter evenly over one side of each slice of bread.
  4. Place the slices buttered side up on a baking sheet. Transfer to the freezer and freeze for 1 hour, or until solid.
  5. Transfer the frozen slices into a labeled freezer bag. Store flat in the freezer.
  6. Remove as many slices as needed straight from the freezer. Add cheese just before cooking if using. Cooking times are:
Air Fryer: cook at 360°F for 6 to 7 minutes
Oven: bake at 350°F for 9 to 11 minutes
    Serve warm.

Notes

  • Thick bread works best for proper Texas toast texture.
  • Garlic level can be adjusted depending on preference.
  • Cheese can be added before cooking if wanted.
  • Great way to use up leftover bread.

Storage

  • Store in a sealed freezer bag for up to 2 months.
  • Remove slices as needed. No need to thaw before cooking.
  • Keep flat in the freezer so they don’t break or stick.
