Becoming a stay at home wife
I’d felt a calling to be home for a while and so making the big leap and moving from the UK to the USA was the big push I needed – everything else was changing so why couldn’t my role too?!
I need to brag on my husband BIG STYLE here – he wasn’t just supportive but he has been my biggest cheerleader in life, celebrating all the little goals and achievements with me along the way. He shared that he’d desired a more stable home life and a wife that prioritised her home and family above anything else and had been praying for this over the years before he met me.
So you see, you never really know until you take the plunge and DISCUSS with your loved ones what they’re going to think – they may surprise you and not be as judgemental at you fear!
Starting a blog
I left nursing & the UK and moved to join my American husband in the PNW in August 2024. I started learning about how to blog in June 2024 and launched my actual blog in August 2024 – so I really am brand new too!
I felt such a calling to be home instead of continuing to pursue my two-decades long nursing career or another job working for someone else. I knew I wanted to work from home but I didn’t know what that was going to look like UNTIL I stumbled across a video about blogging by one of my favorite YouTubers and I knew instantly that I loved the community aspect, the creative side and also the challenge of learning how to set up a blog and run a business from home.
All the videos I watched on YouTube helped me to dive right in and purchase my domain name, pick a host and a WordPress theme and I just started reading lots of other people’s blogs and learned what style to write blog posts in and what Pinterest was etc, everything from scratch. I also bought courses from YouTubers and creators I followed that paid dividends after the initial stages.
I’d joined a facebook group that came with a course when I very first wanted to learn about blogging – the majority of these women looked like they had it all together and were already living their best lives homesteading, homeschooling, being great wives and mother’s all whilst running their (successful) blogs.
Well I felt just about as far away from those farming wives as it was possible to get – and so that’s how Far From The Farm was born. My husband and I do dream of having a little homestead farm one day, but for now we’re committed to living joyfully and to our fullest right where we are!
YES! Gosh I was so embarrassed to call my husband up and tell him that I somehow owned www.catsandturtle.com but (after he stopped laughing) he was so supportive and encouraged me to keep the ridiculous domain name and it would be a funny story one day – and well here we are talking about it!
So I kept it and one of these days when you click on www.catsandturtle.com you just might be able to check it out!
Moral of the story is don’t be discouraged if you mess up a little along the way – just try and get your blog started asap (but maybe check your cart before checking out when buying your domain name!)
